Objective of the role:

The Customs Specialist is responsible for all operational and organizational topics revolving around Customs (mainly managing the import customs declarations of the vehicles and parts). Besides managing and handling all Customs topics, statements with external advisors or with the customs authorities, the Specialist will also take lead in the implementation of necessary systems for e.g. compliance and workflows.

Its field of operation will include both the smart Europe GmbH, as the European Headquarter, as well as all European subsidiaries. As an immediate direct report of the Head of Tax & Customs, the role will assist with the consultation of Tax and Customs matters towards the business counterparts.

Responsibilities:

• Assistance with the imports and exports as well as the management of customs declarations, carnet ATAs etc.
• Assisting internal business units with customs topics
• Assistance in ensuring compliance with national and international customs and international trade regulations ("Customs Compliance") as well as consulting our internal business units on customs-related issues.
• Assistance with master data maintenance for customs-relevant materials in the ERP system, such as customs tariff numbers etc.
• Assistance in arranging all customs related documents for internal and external audits.
• Assistance in the continuous improvement of existing import and export procedures as well as additional customs related projects
• Cooperation with our customs advisors but also with the  customs offices

What you bring along:

• You have successfully completed your university degree in economics or law with a special focus on foreign trade, international trade, export control law and/or a graduate degree in finance
• (customs).
• You have at least 2 years of professional experience in customs field in a comparable position (preferably in the automotive industry) or in a consulting company.
• In-depth you have expertise in international, European (EU) and national customs, preferential and foreign trade law and safe handling of this legislation.
• You have a good understanding of end-to-end supply chain processes
• You have good knowledge in import and export business (freight, ship or air)
• You possess a sound knowledge of customs and customs valuation law (“Zollwertrecht”)
• You have good knowledge in import and export business (freight, ship or air)
• You are confident in the use of common MS Office programs as well as SAP
• Very good communication skills in German and English
• You think in a process and solution-oriented way and are characterized by a high level of coordination and problem-solving skills
